I HAVE ALWAYS had careers that allowed and nurtured my creativity, although it wasn’t until health issues forced my early retirement in 2011 that I found my mojo, fire and passion for painting. I embraced Nike’s famous adage, “Just Do It”!
I submitted a painting into a local art competition, won and soon after was invited to show my work in a gallery. That sounds pretty easy, lucky or both...but not really. I had to make it through my life to get there.
The Universe has been patiently guiding me to my authentic self my whole life. In my youth I was an environmental designer in California. Then, after relocating to Seattle, I opened two artisan galleries. Due to challenging health and finances I needed to make a change that provided health insurance. I became the sales and marketing director for a community newspaper group. That was the career that heart and cancer issues ended and was best thing that has ever happened to me. I’ve never taken an art lesson or studied with anyone. I use acrylic house paint samples or leftovers and make-up brushes. By not knowing, or having to go by “the rules”, I don’t worry about doing anything wrong. I just contentedly paint. When asked about my style and technique, with tongue-in-cheek, I answer that my work references coloring book and paint by number art.
I love, love, love painting...creating shapes and using incongruous color combinations with the goal of making me and anyone who sees my work happy. I have unbridled freedom to paint whatever I want, however I want, with whatever I want.
